Q: If you stop taking a diuretic medication such s Maxzide/HCTZ should you expect to gain weight because of water retention?

I gained 10 lbs in two weeks after stopping this medication with no change in diet or exercis patterns. I am a 59 year old male. Is this normal?

Hi LF Gibson,

No, I recommend contacting your physician to reassess your treatment plan. You may need to continue a low dose of the diuretic or the physician may want to "wait and see" over another couple weeks. Definitely discuss with your physician.
