Q: Can dyazide be taken once a week to control water retention?

I do not have high blood pressure but tend to retain water.  I am 43, healthy and take no additional meds.  Can I take this 1-2 times a week to control water retention without risking my health?

Donna,

Thanks for your question.

Any change in medication, especially starting a new drug, should be done in conjunction with your doctor.  Physicians often suggest a mild diuretic to be taken on an intermittent basis to control excess fluid retention, but only after consideration of possible causes of the fluid retention.  If this is something that is new, or not known to your doctor, I suggest you make an appointment with him/her to evaluate your problem.  After this evaluation, it should be his/her decision whether diuretic therapy is appropriate.

I hope this has been helpful.
