nukertek,
Thanks for your question.
Tarka is an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACE inhibitor) that lowers blood pressure by blocking the production of a powerful hormone that constricts blood vessels and helps prevent reabsorption of sodium and other salts in the kidneys. As a class, the ACE inhibitors have little side effects and are well tolerated by most patients.
It usually takes two to four weeks to see a full effect from a medication, and it takes the same amount of time for a drug, and its effects, to wear off. In general, I would expect you to have no symptoms after stopping this medication. But also remember that the majority of people with high blood pressure have no symptoms either, which is why hypertension (high blood pressure) is known as the silent killer.
Patients should never stop or change the dose of a medication without first discussing it with their physician. Be sure to contact him/her and advise him of your decision and actions. You should be followed up in the near future to have your pressure checked.
Best wishes.
