Am I experiencing symptoms of high blood pressure?
I'm 24 years old and I've been experiencing some headaches followed by visions of flashing lights. When I was pregnant I had the same symptoms which is called preeclampsia or high blood pressure in pregnant women. I'm just wondering if it would be a good idea to see a doctor and also am I too young to be tested for high blood pressure?
Marcy,
Thanks for your question.
First of all, it is never too early to be tested for high blood pressure, which can occur at any age. These certainly could be symptoms of high blood pressure. But another consideration is a form of migraine headaches. Should your pressure be normal, I would also consider a evaluation by an ophthalmologist to be complete.
So, to answer your question, it is essential that you be seen by your physician to have a complete evaluation which should include your blood pressure reading, his initial evaluation of your eyes, and a general physical examination. He might request some blood work and/or other studies for completeness.
Feel better.
