Enid O'Brien,   Thanks for your question.   The only harm would be that her blood pressure might not come down to acceptable levels.    Patients should never stop or alter the dosage of medication without first discussing it with their physician.  Your sister should tell her doctor why she is not taking it.  Other medication, if necessary, can be used to control her pressure.    You should encourage her to contact her doctor and let him/her know.  Certainly, at her next visit, she should let the doctor know, so that he can see what her response is to medication she is actually taking.   I hope this has been helpful.   Martin Cane, M.D.
