can anti inflammatory medication be taken with Accupril
I often take Tilcotil (anti inflammatory Med) for historical sports injuries. I have heard that these drugs do not interact well with blood pressure medication. Can you please clarify if this is correct or not.
JILL IBARRA,
Thanks for your question.
Accupril is a blood pressure medication known as an ACE inhibitor. It works by blocking an enzyme responsible for the production of Angiotensin II, a powerful hormone that causes blood vessels to contrict (narrow) as well as cause water and salt retention in the kidney. These actions are blocked by the lisinopril which results in a lower blood pressure. Accupril has a low side effect profile and can be combined with many drugs without problems.
Tilcotil (tenoxicam) is an anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medication used for various conditions for the relief of pain and inflammation.
The use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (ANSAIDs) including Cox 2 inhibitors, may diminish the anti-hypertensive effect of the accupril. Drugs like Tylenol (acetominophen) are not a problem.
The safest thing to do is check with your physician or pharmacist about potential interactions.
Best wishes.
