S. Robinson,

Thanks for your question.

Vasotec (enalapril) is an Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitor the blocks the conversion of Angiotensin into a more powerful hormone that causes salt and water retention in the kidney.  The result of this is more salt and water is allowed to be released and this lowers blood pressure.  It also causes blood vessels to dilate a bit, which also lowers pressure.  This is a long acting medication and can be taken with or without food.  It can be taken at any time of day, morning or evening, but it is important to take it at the same time each day.  So, get into a routine of taking your medication at a time that you won't forget.  Ideally, this is at meal time, and for most people they have breakfast at home and place their medication on the table to help prevent forgetfulness.  What ever system works for you is fine.

I hope this has been helpful.  Best wishes.
