Q: Occasional sharp pain on the left side of my chest accompanied by thumping under left ear (jaw area)

A couple of visits to the doctor late 2008 indicated that I had hypertension and was prescribed Cozaar. My highest BP during those visits was 150/80, although daily monitoring at home indicated readings between around 120/65 to 135/75. I stopped taking the medication late last year after losing 25 lbs (currently 190lbs and 5'-9") from exercise and diet and maintained a normal BP with occasional (rarely) readings as high as 140/80. Lately, I have been feeling occasional sharp pain on the left side of my chest accompanied by what feels/sounds to be thumping noises (wierd but yes) under my left ear (jaw area). However, my blood pressure reading would be be normal (120 /70). Is this something to be worried about?

Hi Vic,

Yes, I recommend you contact your physician.  Chest pain can be a sign of something serious and worth checking out as soon as possible.
