Q: Any ideas as to why I could be having the high diastolic number?

I have been diagnosed with hypertension, and have secondary pulmonary hypertension also Systemic Lupus and COPD.  I am having blood pressure readings lately example:  113/109 pulse 68.  The systolic is in the normal range but the diastolic is constantly high.  I am on BP meds; Cartia XT 240mg; Dyazide 37.5/25mg; Plaqvix 75 mg; Vytorin 20/10mg.  Any ideas why I could be having the high dyastolic number?  Thanks for your help.

Hi DantMan16,

Possible causes of high diastolic blood pressure vary. Below are a few possibilities, but I recommend working with your doctor to investigate the cause in your situation.

- Obesity

- Poor diet

- Smoking, alcohol use

- Kidney issues
