My BP has been in the lower 140's this last month and the DR. wants to double the dose to bring it further down.  I'm a 60 yr old male, 256 lbs and worried about kidney problems with the Diovan.

Hi James,

I understand your concern about the safety of Diovan. Actually, Diovan has some kidney protective effects, and can actually help kidney function in patients. I would recommend that you take the medication if your doctor has prescribed it for you; he should be aware of your medical conditions and shouldn't prescribe you something if there is the possibilty that it could do more harm then good. I would also recommend that you start an exercise regimen and maintain a healthy diet (if you don't do this already) which can also help to lower your cholesterol.

Thanks for your question!

Jill
