Hi Hassan,   High blood pressure is caused by a variety of conditions - narrowed arteries (caused by high cholesterol and plaque build-up), excess weight, emotional stress, psychological factors (i.e. aggressive type A personality), smoking, malfunctioning hormonal regulators, and a high sodium diet.  Your MD should be able to help you narrow down the cause of your high blood pressure.  Yes, you do have reason to worry.  Ideally blood pressure should be less than 120/80.  As blood pressure creeps up damage occurs to artery walls and organs.  The more prolonged the high blood pressure, the more the damage.   The most effect way to lower high blood pressure is to follow the DASH diet.  You may also be interested in this article - 9 Steps to Rein in a Skyrocketing Blood Pressure.   All the best,   Lisa Nelson, RD, LN 8 Essential Steps to Lower Cholesterol Naturally
