Q: How can a person be alive and have no Blood pressure reading sometimes?

I have a friend who became lightheaded and dizzy while we were out shopping; she was also very thirsty and almost fainting.  I called the store paramedic who took her blood pressure; he was astonished that she had NO pressure reading.  He looked really scared but she told him that she had gotten ill like this a few weeks before, and there was no blood pressure reading at that time either.

What can cause a person to have NO blood pressure reading along with dizziness, thirstiness, etc., and yet still be alive?  I wouldn't have believed it if I wasn't there with her this time.  She says when it happened before, she was taken to the hospital for tests but nothing was found.  Thanks

Hi J Hiller,

Interesting. Not a situation I've encountered or heard of! I recommend she quiz her physician.

Maybe your lady friend is a Vulcan or Romulan! They have almost no blood pressure readings! :3
