Q: had a baby one year ago gained 50 lbs and now i have high blood pressure.

hi im 22 female and i am overweight i am 5'5 and i weigh 210 lbs. I had a baby which i gained about 50 lbs during pregnancy and have been trying to lose weight. I have begun to walk up and down the stairs 20 - 30 minutes every day but sometimes i have to do it in increments. like 15 minutes and then 15 minutes later. Is this effective in lower bloodpressure as well? also my heart rate during the day is always around90-100 but inthe morning it is around 70-80? is there a way of lowering that as well my blood pressure is sometimes normal and sometimes high like 140/95 but sometimes 117/76? any ideas?

Hi Jessiet1119,

Weight loss along with increased activity are effective ways to lower blood pressure. Look into the DASH diet which will promote a lower blood pressure and likely weight loss. Don't worry about having to break your activity into shorter segments right now. It'll still pay off.
