Q: I have a 14 yr old daughter diagnosed with migraines. Her blood pressure has ranged around 94/67 in the past 2 days? is this normal? currently on meds: Butalb 50mg & Tropamax mg25

She has both black outs & occassional fainting spells. We have seen a neurologists and 2 days ago was given 2 shots to break up headaches and her meds were changed from atenolol & imitrex. She has little energy and is often off balance. Migraines began in June of this year and have continuosly gotten more intense. We just began taking blood pressure in the last two days.

Hi B Phillips,

Unfortunately, I don't have a quick and easy answer for you. You are taking the right steps by working with her physicians, monitoring her symptoms, now watching her blood pressure, and making adjustments as indicated. It can take some 'trial and error' to find the right combination of medication. I also encourage you to work with her physicians to investigate the cause of her migraines, so you can treat the cause and eventually eliminate the need for medicaiton. The medications may be contributing to the side effects you've listed.

As an FYI, the average blood pressure for a 14 year-old girl is ~109/64 mm Hg. A systolic blood pressure of 94 may be contributing to her black outs/fainting spells. I recommend discussing with her physician.

Thank you so for your response.  I will continue to work with her doctor.  She just had an MRI today & I'm anxiously awaiting the results.  I will definately inform her doctor of her blood pressure readings.  Again, THANK YOU! It helps to hear that we're on the right track to helping my daughter.Smile
