Q: very high blood pressure unresponsive to medication -getting higher

tendency to high bp but controllable - this is causing nosebleeds, ear ringing and at 180-190/95-116 has me scared of catastrophe!! The patient is a 57-yo male with mildly elevated blood sugar, which diet and exercise normalized. He since has been careless with diet and has gained back all previous loss. 5'8" or so, weighs appx 200 lbs. Fit body type except large round belly. I fear this is some kidney problem or other missed cause.

Hi Butch,

I recommend getting back on track with diet and lifestyle changes to lower blood pressure. Following a diet that promotes a lower blood pressure will increase the effectiveness of medication. The DASH Diet is a very effective option.

All the best,
