Q: F,(43)taking Coreg to reduce heart palpitations from chemo treatments, I had the last one about 2 weeks ago). The side effects: heavy fatigue, random chest discomfort, tightness in neck, weight gain.

My heart rate of 140 or so, (told that is double what a woman should be normally). My cardio doc seems wishy-washy when I question this and first has me stop the Coreg until I point out that this would allow the palpitations to return and then he states to take two Coreg. I then ask him that if I presently take one Coreg and am having issues wouldn't two make it worse? He then goes back to take one,(We've had a few conversations like this). We are at the point were he suggested that I speak to my primary Doc. I am already working on a cardio Doc for a second opinion but wanted to ask should someone expect when taking Coreg and is it normal to have extreme fatigue? If I'm on this for years is this is what I will be like?

Hi Cindy,

Yes, fatigue is a common side effect of coreg. I definitely encourage you to seek an second opinion to ensure your treatment plan is appropriate.
