Q: I have chronic tachycardia that averages 144 bpm and sometimes goes up to 160. Im on inderal/ Will th tachycardia go away after just one use?

My heart bpm averages arounf 144 and goes higher sometimes. I have been on 180 mg of inderol but they wont increase it because it wil lowere my blood pressure. Without the nmeds working, we looked for underlying causes. We found a lung tumor close to my heart. Ive been on inderol since april but hasnt helped. Isnt it supposed to slow your heart rate almost immediately with just the first dose? And when I come off inderol will my heart rate go back to tachycardia? Thanks so much!!!!

Hi Ineedtomatopaste,

No, taking inderal one time will not correct your tachycardia. The medication  needs to be taken on a regular basis for the effects to be long lasting. I recommend discussing your treatment plan fully with your physician to determine how long you'll be taking the medication and how often your heart rate will be monitored.

All the best,

Thank you!  We want to raise the Inderal (180mg/day right now) but the cardio said that an increase will lower my blood pressure.  We think my tachycardia is being caused by the 4mm lung tumor and we are looking at that now.  Are there alternative meds I can talk to my cardio about that may work a little better than Inderal?  Again....thanks so much!!!  I cant wait to get my bpm down.  a bpm of 144 makes it hard to sleep at night ya know.... :-)
