Q: has lexxel been discontinued?

I have been taking Lexxel for about 10 years.  The product has controlled my blood pressure with excellent results.  My pharmacy told me that the Manufacturer has discontinued the product is that true.  The new product that I am taking is not working very good.

Ed Vermurlen,

Thanks for your question.

In December 2007, Astra-Zeneca announced the discontinuation of their anti-hypertensive drug, lexxel.  This drug was a combination of enalapril maleate, an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor, and felodipine, a calcium channel blocker.  Both drugs have been successful individually in the treatment of high blood pressure.  Though lexxel has been discontinued, the two component drugs are still widely available as generics and as brand names (vasotec and plendil).  Your doctor can prescribe these drugs individually, which will be exactly equivalent to what you were taking, and should have the same effectiveness on your blood pressure.

I hope this has been helpful.
