Hello robert g,

While that is a high blood pressure, I'm at least glad you are monitoring your health at home!

It is not particularly surprising that your BP is that high in the morning.  Most beta blockers are dosed twice a day and I wonder if your reading was right before you took your morning dose.  This can elevate your BP in the morning.

Keep a log of your BP.  Take your pressure it three times a day for a week, and bring those readings to your doctor.  He will likely want to increase your dose of medication or add another agent.  In heart failure patients, an ACE-inhibitor is an excellent drug; one you should probably be on.

With high blood pressure, be sure to watch out for feeling dizzy, faint, severe headaches, new muscle weakness or changes in vision.  These are all signs that your BP is too high and causing your body problems.  If these occur, you should go to your local emergency room immediately.

To your health,

Neil MD
