Q: I take atacand 8mg. Is there any substitute that can be a generic. I have ulcerative colitis also.

The cost of my other medications for the colitis problem rapidly consume my medicare D allotment in 4to 6 months. I am retired and on a fixed income. Is there any substitute that can be purchased in generic form for the Atacand?

Hi Maria,

The generic name for Atacand is candesartan.  Your physician and pharmacist would be good resources to help determine alternative medications available.
