Q: my 11 year daughter has high pressure 150/80 from one week. her urine has albumine and red blood cel

my 11 years old daughter has high blood preasure(150/80) since last week. her urine report said it consist of albumin and red blood cells. she had tonsil and got treated for it. doctors are saying that there is relationship between tonsil treatment and this disease. i want to know what is this disease and why they asked me to limit her protein intake?

Thanks for your question.

It sounds like your daughter may have glomerulonephritis which can be a serious situation. In many cases this is linked to a strep infection (not the treatment). It is an inflammatory reaction that can be destructive to the kidneys.

I suggest your daughter be seen by a nephrologist or kidney specialist. She will need close monitoring and follow up, as well as treatment of her blood pressure should it remain elevated. If available, a pediatric nephrologist would be the best option for her, given her young age.

Try to get her evaluated as soon as possible.
