Q: does diovan cause high or low blood sugars for diabetic patients?

my mom is a diabetic and I'm concerned about her taking diovan.  She already has stomach pain and is severely weak.  Will this drug cause her blood sugar to go up or down?   She is 88 and I'm concerned that she was started out with 160mg dose a day.  That seems awful high dose.  She was taking 5mg amlodipine!

Hi Jewel mom,

Studies have not shown a significant effect of Diovan on blood sugar levels. I do recommend discussing your concerns with her physician to ensure you understand her treatment plan.

All the best,
