Hello Sharon,   I can understand your concern for your daughter's health.  Especially if she had normal blood pressure before surgery, her blood pressure is definitely too high right now.   In post-partum women, high blood pressure could be a sign of pre-eclampsia.  Normally, pre-eclampsia is considered a disease of pregnant women.  However, women can get the disease up to about 8 weeks after delivery. Complications includes seizures, strokes and severe breathing problems.  Treatment of the post-partum variant includes blood pressure medications, and IV medications.   Certainly, other diagnoses, like chronic hypertension are more likely than pre-eclampsia, but only a doctor that can examine your daughter can make an accurate diagnosis.   You should encourage your daughter to called her obstetrician and/or primary care doctor for appointments as soon as possible.  If your daughter develops headaches, changes in vision, or difficulty breathing, she should go to the emergency room without delay.   To your (and your daughter's) health, Neil MD
