  roxie,   Thanks for your posted question.  It is difficult to answer your question accurately as more information is needed about your situation (the kidney numbers, medication, age, other underlying diseases, and more).    On a general level, High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) and diabetes are the leading causes of kidney disease, and therefore early treatment of these problems is essential.   Sounds like your doctor is trying to improve your kidney function by aggressively treating your blood pressure.  If the numbers do not improve, he may increase the doses, or choose other medication.  Fortunately, there are many classes of blood pressure medication and each class has several drugs to choose from.  Doctors can now tailor treatment to individual situations.    Best wishes.   Martin Cane, M.D.
