Q: Question about ankle edema

Periodically, I my ankles will become quite swollen. I'm a 45 yo female, on Norvasc 5mg daily. This occurs over several days, particulary after sitting only for a short period of time, like an hour. It is episodic for several days in a row, then seems to go away. My feet and lower legs also swell. The edema is non-pitting.

Do I need to see my doctor if this isn't continous? Could I possibly require a diuretic?

Hi Laura,

Yes, I recommend you consult your physician for an evaluation to determine the cause of the swelling and appropriate treatment.  You can learn a little more about edema here - http://www.healthcentral.com/high-blood-pressure/guide-155027-75.html.
