carol,   Thanks for your question.  The textbook normal pulse rate range is 60 to 100 beats per minute.  This rate is not usually affected by the fact that someone has high blood pressure.  If someone has very low blood pressure, the body may compensate by increasing pulse rate.  Some medication used to treat high blood pressure may slow the pulse rate and and your doctor will usually take this into consideration when examining you.    I hope this answers your question.  Thanks for using our website.   Martin Cane, M.D.
