Stroke complications such as secondary stroke and pneumonia can shorten stroke patients' lives by an average of two years, a new study has found. Researchers looked at data on more than 1,200 stroke patients and were able to calculate their life spans lost to both the stroke and to stroke complications. The scientists found that stroke complications robbed patients of more than five years of life, compared to three years of life for stroke patients who did not have complications.
