Medications
Two types of drugs are used to prevent and treat osteoporosis:
- Antiresorptive Drugs. Antiresorptives include bisphosphonates, hormone replacement therapy, selective estrogen-receptor modulators (SERMs), and calcitonin. Bisphosphonates are the standard drugs used for osteoporosis. Denosumab (Prolia) is a new type of antiresorptive.
