I have had this for going on 10 years now. I've been caught in the middle of job interviews, gynelogical exams, and other unacceptable places for this to happen. I've had every medical test, psychological treatment, etc etc. What I don't understand is why INEVITABLY, when I get into a car, I will get anxious and my stomach will act up. Even when I am just driving with my husband. There is no reason for this nervousness. If I weren't in the car, nothing would happen. I would love to figure out how to get rid of this trigger. It's ruling my life, and I still can't master it. Half the time I have to turn around and go home.
Hello Frustrated,
I hear you. You might want to do a little research on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) which many people find helpful in coping with the stress that comes with gut issues. Or, you might find a therapist who works with hypnosis. I've not had to try either of these to cope, but know many other IBD and IBSers who have used both of these methods with success.
Best of luck,
Elizabeth
Thank you so much, Elizabeth, for this post on stress and anxiety. I certainly can elate to the stress level in my life, and I am such a people pleaser, having to satisfy everyone else but me. I need how to learn to take care of me
I ust got back from having a colonostopy and believe me, the prep was horrible, and by the time I got to the hospital for the procedue I was a nervous wreck. The nurse helped me so much, and said don't worry about anything. Eveything will jut be fine. And she was right. The procedure went so slick
thanks so much for being such an inspiration to me.
I thank you from the bottom of my heart
Hugs, DeeDee
DeeDee,
You're welcome. I'm glad this seemed to help you. I'm also happy to hear that your colonoscopy went well. The prep is absolutely no fun at all and truly the worst part of the test.
Believe me, learning to cope with stress is a constant lesson. Even though I've got my "tools" and can recognize it better now than 10 years ago it's impossible to live a completly stress-free life all day every day. So, if you can just figure out a few things that could help you when you feel that stress coming on it really will help you overall.
Best wishes to you. I hope for only the best for you.
Cheers,
Elizabeth
