About Me

I am a mother of three wonderful children. My 14 yr old daughter had been suffering from symptoms similar to GERD. She was initially diagnosed about 9 months ago with this. After six months passed, she suddenly became worse. During this time, she had lost considerable weight. She was sent to a specialist who performed an endoscopy. He found inflammation in her duodenum in addition to ulcers. Initially they tested her for H. pylori, which came back negative. We decided to do a full scope two weeks later to see if she was healing using acid blockers and Carafate. It was worse this time and she was admitted to the hospital. He took biopsies and said he strongly suspected Crohn's. While in the hospital the biopsy results came back and they diagnosed her with gastroduodenal Crohn's Disease. This type of Crohn's is difficult to find information on because it is a rare form. I am just searching for knowledge on this disease and hope to get her in remission soon. She is currently on 25 mg prednisone (Started at 40 mg and stepping down), along with Pentasa and Prevacid. She is a very strong woman, but she sometimes feels overwhelmed and alone in dealing with this. And as all parents understand, it is difficult to see her going through it.
