I had my ostomy reversal as well as the stoma removal on April 28, 2010. I was in the hospital for ten days and was not getting any better, they gave me ativan, and it made me crazy, I ripped off all my bandages and pulled out my stomach tube, I checked myself out of the hospital in the middle of the night the next night. Five days later I was back in the hospital with severe dehydration.
After clearing up the problem with the meds and the dehydration, I had to have another surgery to clear a completely blocked small intestine. I spent another 12 days in the hospital for this and was in extreme pain for days after the surgery. I would think that it would be normal for the surgeon to check the healthy part of the bowels for obstructions prior to closing to prevent this third and in my mind totally unnecessary surgery to open the small intestine.
Has anyone else had a similar problem or was my surgeon just in to big of a hurry to get to his next patient.
I would appreciate any feedback from anyone on this subject.
