Q: Do I need to remain on a low residue diet post surgery?

I have just had my 4th bowel resection for Crohns disease. Pre-op I was on a low residue diet due to severe adhesions. Now the adhesions have been seperated and the stricture has been removed do I need to remain on a low residue diet.

Hi Pinnywinch,

Since your 4th bowel resection seems recent this is a question that you must ask your gastroenterologist. The reason for a low-res diet is to give you gut and colon a chance to relax and heal and depending on how you are feeling and healing you may need to be on it for a few more days, a few more weeks, or a few more months. Your doctor will be better able to help you with this post-op plan.

Good luck,

Elizabeth
