Q: Is Mesalamine (aminosalicylate) a steriod drug ?

No, Mesalamine is not a steroid it is what's called a 5-aminosalicylic acid. Mesalamine affects a substance in the body that causes inflammation, tissue damage, and diarrhea.
Mesalamine is used to treat ulcerative colitis, proctitis, and proctosigmoiditis. Mesalamine is also used to prevent the symptoms of ulcerative colitis from recurring.
I've been taking Asacol, one form of Mesalamine, for 10 years with good results.
