How does alcohol effect Crohn's

My friend has Crohn's Disease and drinks a lot; 6 pack AT LEAST per day.  I've heard that his doctor told him he should quit drinking or "die."  He may be alcoholic.  How does this effect the nutrients he gets/doesn't get, and does Crohn's make his probable alcoholism more of threat…
