Does anyone out there with microscopic colitis have problems with thinning hair? If so, how do you improve the problem?

Hi Mary Lee,

Are you taking an Rx medication for the MC like Asacol or Lialda or Colazal? If so, it's most likely the Rx that is causing your hair to thin, it's actually listed as one of the possible side effects. MC or UC doesn't cause hair to thin. If it is the Rx there's not a lot you can do. My hair has thinned since I started taking Asacol but I started with very thick hair so it's not too big a problem. Also, as I've been able to decrease the dosage of the Asacol the thinning has decreased as well.

Talk to your doctor about possible other Rx options. For me, the benefit from the Asacol outweighed the thinning hair, but it's a personal thing and we're all different.

Good luck,

Elizabeth
