Myralax for Crohn's

I am a mother of three wonderful children. My 14 yr old daughter had...

My daughter was diagnosed with Crohn's a month ago. Her specialist started her on Myralax immediately and has her taking it once a day. She has Crohn's in her duodenum and has never had problems with BMs. It seems to have increased her BMs from once a day to two to three times a day. They are still firm. I don't understand the purpose for Myralax if she has never shown signs of constipation. Why would he have her take this and can it cause gas and bloating?

Hi Gina,

I can't answer this question. It is something that you need to call and ask him or his nurse this question. It is important with people with IBD to keep the intestines moving and working properly and he may be using the Myralax for that purpose, almost as a preventative measure of some sort.

I know a diagnosis like IBD, especially in your child, can be overwhelming and even daunting. But it is important as you move through the Crohn's treatment with your daughter to ask her doctor questions, to understand the treatment they are suggesting, and to make sure that you agree with what they are suggesting as well.

I would call her doctor today to discuss her new bowel habits with the Myralax and to get a better understanding of their reasoning behind prescribing it for her.

Good luck,

Elizabeth
