Q: Crohn's and Dentist

My daughter has Crohn's and will be visiting the dentist soon. Is it necessary to discuss her condition with her dentist?

Hi Gina,

Thanks for writing.

The main reason to disclose her IBD to a dentist is so that they are aware of any Rx or OTC medications she is taking to treat it, or any other medical condition. There could be times when they give her anesthesia or other medications for certain treatments and you want to be sure the doctor is aware so that there aren't any potential drug interactions.

It's always a good idea to let any doctor know what Rx and OTC medications you are taking.

Hope this helps!

Elizabeth
