Topics:DiarrheaConstipationAbdominal Pain

(continued) 1-2wks followed by many days of constipation. I have abdominal cramps during flare ups and constipation. I sometimes run a low-grade fever, have loss of appetite, I'm always thirsty & always tired. I was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes last year & also had my gallbladder removed last year. I have been having the above mentioned symptoms for about 4 months. I have a history of chronic constipation dating back to early childhood. I am now 33 and would like to know if these symptoms sound like UC or Crohn's. Any insight or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

You may want to check out the symptom page for IBD to better determine if your symptoms sound like Crohn's or Colitis.  The Irritable Bowel Syndrome page may also be useful.

I have found it helpful to use a journal to keep track of foods eaten and symptoms to see if there are any obvious triggers.  Taking this list to your physician can help them to better determine if you may be dealing with food allergies or intolerances as well.  Be sure to bring your food/symptom journal along with a complete list of your medications to your appointment.

There are numerous other reasons for GI upset so please discuss the problem with your physician.

I was diagnosed ten years ago with irritable bowel syndrome and as of the last six months started having the same symptoms you have along with heartburn. I also had my gall bladder removed a year ago. I just recently had a colonoscopy and gastritis and ulcerative colitis was found. I would recommend you get a colonscopy and upper gi test as soon as possible to rule out crohns. good luck
