Q: Having tarry, sticky stool, and black stools.

6 weeks ago I had Gall Bladder Lap surgery. Then last week I had a very tar like, sticky stool that wouldn't even flush. Yesterday I passed solid black stools. I've also been having stools that have "stuff" inside them, pieces of things, and not food. Any ideas?

I've also had 2 lower back surgeries this past year, so have a lot of pain there.

Hello, Marylouise.

I'm sorry you've been having these problems, and thnak you for writing, however, you have posted to our forum for concerns and issues related to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

I will say that black, "tarry" stool can be suggestive of upper GI tract bleeding, so I suggest that you contact your health care provider to discuss the changes in your stools.

Be well-
