Q: Crohns Disease?

My nephew is 16 years old, lives in Texas is 5'1" weighs approximately 125lbs.  I was told that his diagnosis is Crohns Disease.  What is this, he will visit me for two weeks in June, what should his diet be.  What is the prognosis of this ailment?

Thanks,

Concerned Auntie

Hi Shawnzee,

Go back to the IBD home page on the site and look under the heading Crohn's disease, where you'll find a description of the disease. You can also go to the www.ccfa.org website and see their description.

It's hard to say what to expect when your nephew visits because we all have different effects from this disease. The good news is, at 16 he's old enough to tell you if he needs to eat specific foods, etc. And if he's taking medications you might need to remind him to take them. But otherwise don't worry too much. He or his parents will let you know what you need to know before he gets there.

Have fun!

Elizabeth
