Back pain associated with bowel movement

My son who is 37, not one to run to the Doctor has been having severe back pain, and it seems to be associated with early morning bowel movement, but pain is persisting almost all day now. He is scheduled for a ct scan  and a colon test with a  light and also he has to do a stool…
