When I travel, I do not produce bowel movements, unless I am somewhere I feel very comfortable with my surroundings.  I've even tried some mild laxatives.  What are some other things I can try to fix this.  Lately I have also had some bright orange liquid along with my bowel movements.  It does not mix with the stool water.  I'm very concerned.  What might cause this and what are my risks?

Hi Kay,

A typically healthy person has 1-2 bowel movements per day. Stress can cause either diarrhea or constipation.

Since you are having orange liquid mixed in with your stools I suggest you make an appt. with your doctor to discuss it. It may or may not be something to have checked out further.

If bile is not being properly absorbed my the stomach and intestines it can be eliminated with a bowel movement.

Always best to talk to your doctor when bowel habits change.

Best of luck,

Elizabeth
