colonoscopy biopsy inconclusive for crohn's but a lot of inflammation in small intestine

vonnie
10/07/09

had a colonoscopy in Sept. 09 and did biopsy due to inflammation in ileum. Inflammation was also seen on CT scan.  They told me biopsy was not conclusive for crohns. Stool panel showed no white blood cells in it either. My question:  If it is not crohn's, why do they want to put me on anti-inflammatory bowel medicine?  How do I know whether or not it is or isn't crohn's?  Do I have to wait months to do another colonoscopy and continue worrying in the meantime?  I guess I am looking for definitive answers to the diarrhea, weight loss, and cramping I have had in the last 12 months.  I had colonoscopy exactly a year ago in september and everything was fine.  Gallbladder removed in Nov. of 08.

There can be many reasons for inflammation, and even though you don't have Crohn's you need to decrease the inflammation, so that's a reason they've put you on anti-inflammatory medication.

You must ask your doctor these questions. They know you, your intestines, and have reasons why they are suggesting certain treatments. If you don't understand why they're suggesting something, you must ask them for more details.

We are not doctors here and giving you a definitive diagnosis over the internet is not possible. Many GI issues are hard to diagnose and not always clear.

I'd ask your doctor about Celiac.
