Q: I have had 4 hospitalizations this year for surgical adhesions should I stay on the Low Residue Diet

Do I stay on the Low Residue diet permanently? My boyfriend thinks I should eat "healthy stuff" like bran muffins and bran cereal, the doctor said no. I think high fiber will stick me in the hospital again. I was in the hospital last Jan., April, July and Nov. for 6-8 days each.what is new information about treatment of surgical adhesions and partial obstructions? Thanks

Hi Carol,

This is really a question that you and your doctor or nutritionist have to answer specifically for you and your situation. I've always heard that a low residue diet is typically a short-term protocol. But, that may not be the case for you at this time.

I don't have any specific knowledge of surgical adhesions, so really do have to refer you back to your treating physician.

Best of luck to you,

Elizabeth
