It seems like you've been feeling mighty uncomfortable for some time, Thelma, and I'm sorry about that.
Bloating, gas, and constipation can be caused by several things, and they may or may not be directly related to your Crohn's disease.
An interesting fact: many Crohnies also have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). With the symptoms you describe--bloating, gas, and constipation--you may very well be experiencing the constipation prominent type of IBS. Have you discussed this with your doctor?
Whether or not your constipation issue is part of IBS, a healthy adult should be eating somewhere between 20 and 35 grams of dietary fiber each day--but, few of us do. That's too bad, because dietary fiber is a natural stool softener. By gradually increasing high fiber foods in your daily diet, together with the addition of just a few more glasses of water each day, and couple of spins around the neighborhood (on foot!), you're sure to see a decrease in your discomfort very soon.
Good sources of fiber include whole grain bread and cereals, fruits,
vegetables, and beans. Dried plums, prune juice, ground flaxseed, and, of course, water--with a touch of exercise--
also help loosen bowels.
Additionally, you may want to consider using a daily probiotic, such as Culturelle. Probiotic bacterial cultures are intended to assist the body's naturally occurring gut flora to re-establish and maintain themselves. In two recent studies, probiotics were also found to be effective in reducing IBS symptoms
