Crohns and Environment

When reading about 'causes' for Crohn's it mentions genetics and environment.  Does that mean a person's living environment, being exposed to something, or the environment of one's stomach?  I used to think it was something in a person's environment but participated in a teleconference and thought someone mentioned it was a person's stomach environment.  Please clarify.

Hi Jay,

I can't say for sure, but I do know of one IBD patient who found they were living in a home that had high levels of mold. They moved out and many of their IBD symptoms went into remission.

Also, while stress and emotions don't 'cause' IBD many of us find that high stress levels can make symptoms worse.

This is a good question to ask you GI next time you see him/her.

Cheers,

Elizabeth
