Q: Blood spot on the surface of stool

I got a bright red blood spot on the surface of the stool. I passed two sausage like stool. Only one stool has a blood spot on it. It was like a 1 cm long ( guess). The stool color was brown as normal. Blood did not dissolve in the toilet and there was no blood on the tissue, after wipe. This is the first time, I have seen it. I hope it is not serious. I am only 36.

I'm not a doctor, but do have both IBD and IBS. A one-off instance of blood on normally formed stool is nothing to worry about. It sounds like you could have a very small hemorrhoid which can cause blood as you describe. If you do not have any other problems or symptoms I'd let it be. Be sure you're eating a balanced diet with fruit and vegetables and fiber which all help to keep hemorrhoids from happening.

Happy New Year,
