Q: Have UC can i control without Meds

Recently diagnosed with uc at age 45 in the lower left colon. had a cononoscopy and that determined the problem. I was having trouble going or making normal stool. It was runny and had blood and mucus in it. After the procedure of colonscoopy i was percribed a enima (cortisteroid ) to get it under control. My doctor then perscribed me with Azulfidine and said i will be taking this for the rest of my life but i could eat what ever I want. I did not like what i was hearing so my wife and I are on a mission to find out a natural way to deal with this. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Shaespapa my question is can I control the flares with the SCD diet . Been on the diet for 1 month and have had better stool . It is light brown with some traces of blood now and then (every other day or so ) Usualy only have to go once a day. I have a limited menu and introduce different foods slowly and check for reaction. How long will it take to see no blood. Can this work with out taking medicine.

I am on the SCD and only go once a day and I have normal stool. You might want to cut out the nuts and seeds. See if the blood goes away then. I am controlling this by diet only. I was on asacol but had trouble with kidneys, so I had to quit. I was switched to Lialda and did fine for a couple of days and then started having a severe allergic reaction. I had to quit that also. I am doing better off all meds. I do take probiotics which is called VSL#3 and an herbal formula called Intestinal Soothe and Build. Sometimes I take flaxseed oil and that helps also.

Forgot to say that it takes 6 months on the diet to get rid of the blood completely and one year on the diet to get into full remission.
