Hi Patricia,

What you are describing sounds like the beginning of a UC flare-up. Yes, this is the time to call your GI's office, tell them you are having a flare with blood, etc. and need to see the doctor as soon as possible. While blood and mucus are typical it's better to get a flare under control as soon as possible so that it doesn't get worse and harder to control.

Now that you know you have IBD it is best to be in contact with your doctor when new or different symptoms, like these, surface. The quicker you can get treatment the easier a flare is to treat. It's like your GI will temporarily increase the dose of your medication to get the flare under control. But, you don't want to do this yourself. Call your GI's office today for their earliest appt.

You'll be fine.

Elizabeth
