Q: What is the differance between a diagnostic and routine colonoscopy?

My insurance said they will pay for a routine colonoscopy but not for a diagnostic one!  Differance?

Hi Michael,

To be 100% sure of their reasoning you should call your insurance company and ask them this question.

But, my best guess is that a "routine" colonoscopy is done on people 50 and over to screen for colon cancer. While a "diagnostic" colonoscopy is done to rule out things like IBD.

Good luck to you,

Elizabeth

A diagnostic is when they run all test to let u know if u have like colon polyps or cd and the colon test is just checking for like cancer and cancer polyps Reply
